Hello, and welcome to another edition of the Null Newsletter! It’s been a busy month here at Null, so let’s get right into things.
Athena Crisis Hits 1.0
Athena Crisis has hit its 1.0 release after almost six months in Early Access. We’re tremendously grateful to all of the Athena Crisis community members who’ve provided feedback and helped guide AC to its full release. (If you haven’t joined yet, there’s no better time than now to join the official Discord!)
The Invasion feature has been a huge hit since 1.0 launched on September 23rd; it allows players to ask for help while playing the campaign, with the caveat that whoever answers the call may actually choose to invade their battle and act as an additional opponent. I recently streamed some Athena Crisis on the Null Twitch channel and opened my game up to other players, and quickly found myself with five other players joining in, creating a massive battle of over 100 units. Invasions are a great way to add some spontaneity to turn-based battles; if you want to join in on the fun, keep an eye on the Invasions channel of the Discord to see when people call for help.
In addition to Invasions, the community has been contributing new maps and campaigns to the game at a furious pace, some with excellent names like Shrimp Nibblers Are Back and Pizza Island. There are also new user-generated campaigns, like the epic 24-map Survival of the Swiftest and the darkly humorous A Routine Delivery, in which your first mission sees you taking a “ten minute rum break.”

Our first game release is obviously a big step for Null! Here’s looking forward to many more successful launches in the future!
Welcome Michael Ailshie To Null
The latest Nullian to join our team is Michael Ailshie, our new General Manager! He comes to us by way of Supergiant Games, Epic Games and Netflix Game Studios, and will be helping ensure that Null operates and grows as smoothly as possible, and he’s already making great contributions to our processes and strengthening our relationships with both our developers and our external partners. You can find more information about him in our news post on Null.com.
Null Travels Continue
We started the month with the entire company (including Michael) attending PAX West in Seattle, showing off Athena Crisis, Demon Spore, ChainStaff, and Streetdog BMX. Seattle is a lovely city, and the crowds at PAX loved to stop by and see the games. Personally, I love visiting Seattle and took the opportunity to walk around ten miles a day exploring the city when I wasn’t busy in the convention center! My feet didn’t thank me but it was fun nonetheless.
But wait, there’s more: Null employees also traveled to TwitchCon in San Diego to meet some influencers and attend some panels, and some of us also visited Tokyo to attend Tokyo Game Show to meet some business partners and scout for new games to publish. The adventures continue in October and beyond, with trips planned to SXSW Sydney, wonderful San Francisco for a full-team in-person conference, and Poland in December to sync up with the ExeKiller team!
Your Pup of the Month is Radar! He roams the patio at my local watering hole and is always happy to accept any food that might “accidentally” fall to the ground! Keep vacuuming, Radar!
