Tape to Tape went into Early Access on May 3rd and we’ve been blown away by the response! Thousands of people bought the game in its first week, bringing in over $600,000 in sales and giving it a "Very Positive" score on Steam.
This didn't happen overnight. Tape to Tape's developers, Excellent Rectangle, have been hard at work for years building their community and creating an awesome game. All of that work is slowly starting to pay off, with an Early Access launch so successful it caught the eye of renown indie game marketer Chris Zukowski from How To Market A Game.
Chris took a deep dive into what worked for Tape to Tape's Early Access launch at the beginning of May and came up with a few conclusions:
Tape to Tape totally nailed the genre, controls, and depth.
Their long "coming soon" campaign that involved Kickstarter, participating in events, and a bit of TikTok built up anticipation and community.
They saw incredible support from streamers and a boisterous Discord community- The team refined the demo based on early player feedback and playtime data.
Excellent Rectangle's strategic use of ads.
